NORWALK, Conn. -- John Joseph Ceci , a Norwalk resident, died on Dec. 31 at Norwalk Hospital. He was 79.
Ceci was born Nov. 8, 1936, in Greenwich to Giuseppe and Angelina Ceci of Cos Cob. He attended Greenwich High School, where he was a standout in football. He graduated in 1956.
He originally worked in the construction industry then eventually took a a job with New York Graphic Society in Greenwich. After several years at NYGS, he returned to working in finish carpentry.
At the age of 43, Ceci joined AA and had more than 36 years in the program. He was also an honorary member of the Saugatuck Hose Company No. 4 and was made their official Sergeant of Arms, receiving a plaque and honorary flag for his service.
He is survived by two sons, Joseph John (Jay) Ceci and John Anthony Ceci (Adriana), both of Norwalk; three grandchildren, Annamaria Ceci, Giancarlo Ceci and Marcoantonio Ceci; sisters, Rose C. Fiorito, Aurora Cantella, Enis Kulik, and Marge Colabella; two brothers; former wife, Virginia Thompson of Norwalk; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son Arthur Dewey Ceci; and brother Dominic J. Ceci.
Friends are invited to greet the family from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday Jan. 8 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 E. Wall S. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Saturday at St. Thomas Church, 203 East Ave. Norwalk. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Norwalk.
